1inamillion (ワンインアミリオン)

Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan

Active since 2015

Genre: math rock; instrumental rock; post-rock; melodic hardcore

Although they have no vocalist, their lead guitar lines are composed to follow vocal structures. Incorporating the aggression of metalcore and melodic hardcore, makes the rythm section punchy and driving. However there is a heavy math rock influence of complex time signatures and intricate guitar tapping. The bass provides a backbone that is strong, but doesn't muddy the guitar work. They are a high energy blend of technical precision and catchy, melodic songcraft.

Their song titles serve as the only textual guide, allowing the listener to find their own stories within the shifts of the tempo and emotional warmth of the music.

Songs that stood out to me:

''3mangrove'' - Sharp, condensed, and chaotic, with jagged stop-start dynamics.
"1000000gravity" - Groovy and heavy. Anchored by the bassline which keeps the intricaate tapping of the guitars from floating away.
"Shoes" - Nostalgic, technique is about melodic phrasing. The lead guitar lines are vocal, making humming along fun.

Similar to toe, LITE.
