Genre: (misantropic) melodic death metal;
Their sound is built on dual guitar harmonies that weave in and out of crushing riffs. They have the ability to ground a track with a soaring, harmonious lead that stays in your head long after the song ends. The aggression is there, but it’s polished by melodic virtuosity, a perfect balance.
Guitar work is defined by intricate solos, sweep picking, and harmonized melodies. The drummers double pedal work shapes their agression. The vocalist possesses a powerful guttural growl typical of melodic death metal, as well as a range that allows for more rythmic and occasionally cleaner, more melodic overlays.
Their lyrics describe the native habits and instincts that define the human nature in a morbid way. Psycholocigal struggle, complexity of the human psyche, societal ignorance and a bleak outlook on the future of humanity. They emphasize the idea that human ignorance is a self-imposed prison.
Songs that stood out to me:
"Lack Of Knowledge" - Their most aggressive and high-tempo song. The lyrics are a critique of intellectual laziness and the comfort of ignorance.
"Sons Of A Dying Sun" - A balance of their brutality and their melodic sensibilities, featuring a dual guitar harmony. The transition between the guttural vocal verses and the melodic instrumental bridges is seamless.
"While My Soul Wept" - Their most emotional and atmospheric song. Demonstrates their range and shows they can be heavy through mood and sorrow. Lyrics focus on internal pain, loss, and the death of the spirit.
Similar to Insomnium, Dark Tranquillity, early In Flames or Arch Enemy.
